It is essential you know your therapist is fully trained, experienced and sensitive to the process you are entering into, and fully regulated by the professional governing bodies.
As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist I am fully trained and professionally qualified. Over seven years of academic study and clinical placements, I acquired a BSc(Hons) Degree in Psychology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies and an MSc in Counselling Psychology. I have been chartered since 2000 which means that I have fulfilled all the necessary requirements set by the British Psychological Society (BPS) in order to be entered into their Register of Psychologists. The BPS is the professional governing body for psychologists in Great Britain.
In order to practise as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, I am required to hold and renew a Practising Certificate and Professional Liability Insurance on an annual basis. This means I am recognized and licensed by the BPS and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) which is the government's regulatory body for all health professionals. These bodies also require that I undertake Continued Professional Development (CPD) in order to ensure my knowledge and practice remain fully informed by current advances in the field.
The information above is important for you to have, as it is your guarantee of a fully professional service. The BPS and HCPC are there to ensure that those of us offering our psychological services to the public act ethically and in accordance with accepted best practice.
I have extensive experience as a Psychologist at a leading London Clinic established in 1981, where I served on the Clinical Advisory Committee for 8 years, and as Committee Chairman for 6 years was responsible for the management and conduct of my fellow clinicians. This has demanded that I lead by example, which is why at the centre of my way of working I place the code of ethics and conduct laid down by the BPS.
This approach to my work has contributed to successfully helping clients from diverse backgrounds. With regular referrals from the Financial Services such as Banks and Management Consultants, I have also worked with Teachers, Doctors, Students, Social Workers, Actors, Journalists and clients from the IT world.
I also worked as a Psychologist at Transport for London. For 7 years I worked at a London University where I became a Senior Lecturer training and examining prospective psychologists. I also sat on the University Ethics Committee.
My experience and good standing was recognized in 2013 when I became an Associate Fellow of the BPS.
